“It’s evident that Wales is still today, feeling the effects of Westminster rule. Since the 16th century, many elements of our society and economy have been shaped by demands from English MPs, our country has previously been described as “England’s First Colony”, disregarding the strength of our Welsh identity and remaining traditions. To me, Welsh independence isn’t about creating new borders and separation to our neighbours, it’s about allowing the Welsh assembly — the people who do understand our rich culture, heritage and economy — to trust us to make our own decisions. It still boggles my brain that I’m 26, and the Welsh Government Act, was formed during my lifetime — that’s how behind we are due to our country’s oppression within the United Kingdom. It’s great that the Welsh Government can continue to pass further acts which give us stronger law-making powers, but to me, it seems futile, there’s only so much we can do with our devolution settlement under Westminster rulers.”

Yn hytrach, mae’n fater o adael i Senedd Cymru – y bobl sy’n deall cyfoeth ein diwylliant, ein treftadaeth a’n heconomi – i ymddiried ynom ni i wneud penderfyniadau drosom ni ein hunain. Mae hyn yn dal i chwalu fy mhen: Rwy’n 26 oed, ac er bod Deddf Llywodraeth Cymru wedi cael ei phasio yn ystod fy oes, rydyn ni’n dal mor bell ar ei hôl hi gan fod ein gwlad yn cael ei gormesu wrth fod yn rhan o’r Deyrnas Unedig. Mae’n wych fod Llywodraeth Cymru’n gallu pasio mwy o ddeddfau sy’n rhoi mwy o bwerau deddfu i ni, ond mae’n teimlo’n ofer i fi achos dim ond hyn a hyn y gallwn ni ei gyflawni gyda’n setliad datganoli tra’n bod ni’n parhau dan reolaeth San Steffan.”
